There’s something about an early spring evening that makes me feel hopeful. It’s the perennial newness in the air and the light, and in the budding leaves on the trees. Although March is fickle, she’ll sometimes gift us with a sweet preview of what is soon to come into fullness. Of course, there might still be a bit of winter left, but it’s fading quickly into the shadows, to gather strength for the next year’s season.
Yes, spring always brings a new curiosity, and a yearning to learn something new, to walk a new path, sing a new song, or write a new verse. The brisk air wafting through the curtains and playing over the windowsill invites us to get up, come outside, come see what’s to be.
I think of the spring weddings, the coupling of two lives into a new adventure. I think of the spring births, of those welcoming new life into the world. Grand beginnings!
Of course, in spring there will also be goodbyes; lives in their last season, moving on to a better place. Spring comforts us with her bright colors and gentle light, and with the songs of the birds. The abruptness of the ending is somehow softened.
But a regeneration, an awakening is underway, for spring is just around the corner. What will your spring renewal bring? I look to the future with bright eyes, because spring is almost here!
